Pear + Ginger Baby Food Puree

Ginger adds a nice savory component to the naturally sweet pears. Give this pear + ginger baby food puree to your 4 month+ baby, I promise it won't disappoint!

Ingredients

  • 3 large bartlett pears
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • water, breast milk or baby formula as needed

Instructions

  • Put about 2 inches of water in a small pot and bring it to a soft boil. Add the steamer basket to the pot.
  • Wash the pears and cut them into quarters. (Peeling the pears is optional.)
  • Add the pears to the steamer basket and cover the pot. Steam the pears for 10-20 minutes, or until the pears are completely soft.
  • Add the pears to a blender and blend until smooth. Add water, formula or breast milk as needed, until you reach your desired consistency.

Notes

  • If you are using very ripe, soft pears you can skip to step 4.
 
  • Cooking pearsfor baby food is not necessary, unless your pears are not soft enough.  However, cooking pears helps to break them down, making them easier for young babies to digest. 
 
  • Try adding different spices such as cinnamon, clove, or allspice!
