Ingredients

  • 1 can Pillsbury pizza crust (or any other refrigerated, ready to bake pizza dough)
  • 10 oz frozen chopped spinach thawed and squeezed dry
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup parmesan grated or shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella shredded
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400º F.
  • Add the spinach, cream cheese, minced garlic, salt, basil and oregano to a bowl and mix until completely combined. Then mix in the parmesan and mozzarella cheeses. Set it aside.
  • Unroll the pizza dough onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Then, cut the dough into a triangle, as pictured in the blog post above. I used kitchen shears to cut it, but you can also use a pizza cutter or a knife.
  • Remove the two outer pieces of dough and place them side by side to create another triangle. (This will be the top part of the bread). Pinch the seams together well. Don’t worry if the dough gets a little stretched out.
  • Cut the bottom of the triangle on the baking sheet to form a tree trunk. Then, spread the spinach and cheese mixture evenly over the tree.
  • Place the second triangle on top, stretching it as needed to completely cover the tree. Then, cut the bottom of the triangle to match the trunk of the tree below it.
  • Using kitchen shears or a pizza cutter, cut slits along the sides of the tree. Be sure to cut almost to the middle, leaving a small piece uncut to hold the tree together. Then, twist each piece 2-3 times, as pictured above in the blog post.
  • Cut shapes out of the excess dough, and place them on the tree like ornaments (optional).
  • Bake on the bottom rack of the oven for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Make sure the bottom is cooked through, and golden brown as well. Mix the melted butter and garlic powder together, then brush it over the top of the bread. Serve warm with your favorite marinara sauce. My favorite, hands down, is Rao’s marinara. Enjoy!
