How do you make the Chinese New Year Firecrackers Craft?

Chinese New Year Firecrackers Craft

Supplies:

Step 1: Print 2 copies of the hexagon sheet and at least 4 copies of the other sheet on red paper.

Step 2: Trace the hexagon and the Chinese character with glue, then cover it in gold glitter. Shake off the excess glitter and let it dry. Once it’s completely dry, cut the hexagon out. Repeat these steps with the second hexagon.

Step 3: Fill in the lines on the rectangles with glue, as pictured below. Cover it with gold glitter, then shake off the excess. Let it dry completely, then cut out each rectangle. Repeat the same steps with all of the sheets.

Step 4: Glue the rectangle strips together to form cylinders (firecrackers) as shown below. Use clothespins to hold them together as they dry. If you have double sided tape, you can also tape them together to save time.

Step 5: Tape a small piece of red yarn to the back of one of the hexagons to create a loop at the top. Then, tape a long piece of yarn to the bottom of the hexagon as show below. This will be the string that the firecrackers will hang on. The length will depend on personal preference as well as how many firecrackers you want to add to it.

Step 6: Tie a short piece of yarn to the long string, then tape a firecracker to each side of the string. Repeat until you have used all of the firecrackers. Slide the knots along the long piece of string to space the firecrackers out as you’d like.

Step 7: To create a tassel, loop some yarn a few times as show in the picture below. (I wrapped the yarn around my thumb and elbow to create long loops.) Then, attach it by folding the yarn in half and putting the long firecracker string through the loop and tying it. Tie a short string around the top of yarn strands to keep the tassel together. Then, use scissors to cut through the loops at the bottom

Step 8: Glue the second hexagon to the back of the first one to cover the strings and tape. (You can also use double sided tape for this.)
