With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s time to embrace the beauty of the season and get creative with the vibrant fall leaves around us. Use those colorful autumn leaves to make this turkey craft with your kids. Not only is it a fun activity for the whole family, but it also brings a touch of nature’s beauty to your Thanksgiving celebrations.
Fun Fall Leaves Facts for Kids
- Leaves change color because the trees stop producing chlorophyll, the green pigment that helps them make food. As the green fades away, it reveals the other pigments, such as red, orange, and yellow, which create the vibrant fall foliage.
- Leaves have a vital role: Leaves play a crucial role in helping trees make food through a process called photosynthesis. They absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide and convert them into oxygen and glucose, which is food for the plant. It’s like a tree’s own kitchen!
- Fallen leaves create cozy homes for many small creatures like insects, worms, and even some animals. These creatures burrow and hide in the leaves, making them an essential part of the forest’s ecosystem. So, when you’re collecting leaves, be gentle and look out for any tiny creatures that might be living there.
