Your kids will have fun bringing in the New Year with this New Year’s Eve countdown craft!
Counting down to the New Year can be so much fun, especially for little ones! There’s so much anticipation leading up to it, they can’t help but get excited!
Here is an easy paper plate craft that can help them bring in the New Year. They can practice with it ahead of time, use it to count down the hours, and use it in the final count down. All they have to do is pull the number strip down, and the numbers will appear as they count!
How do you make this New Year’s Eve countdown craft?
Supplies:
- paper plate
- cardstock
- markers
- paint
- glue
- glitter
- scissors
Step 1: Paint your paper plate and let it dry.
Step 2: While the paint is drying, use a marker to write the numbers on a long strip of cardstock. I chose to start with the number 12, but you can start with the number 10 if you prefer. Try to space the numbers out evenly.
Step 3: Cut two slits in the middle of the paper plate, as show below. Make sure the space between the two slits is the size of the numbers, and the width of the slits are wide enough for the paper strip to go through.
Step 4: Insert the number strip up through the bottom slit and down through the top as shown below. Then, decorate the plate with glue and glitter however you’d like. I used a pencil to write “Happy New Year” and “2022”. Then I traced the pencil marks with glue and covered them with glitter.
By the way, as much as I love glitter, I HATE that these micro plastics end up in our oceans. It is extremely harmful for our environment. Luckily, there is bio-degradable, earth friendly glitter available!
