This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie is dessert in a glass, without the guilt! It has vegan and gluten free options, so everyone can enjoy it!
It’s fall, and you know what that means…pumpkin everything! Pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cheesecake. The options are literally endless.
They all taste so good, but unfortunately they aren’t good for you.
Luckily, I have a recipe that tastes like dessert in a glass, but is actually good for you! This pumpkin pie smoothie is a healthy way to get your pumpkin fix.
What are overripe bananas?
The key to this smoothie is using frozen “overripe” bananas.
An overripe banana has lots of dark brown spots on it, and is a little softer in texture. The picture below shows the banana at the perfect stage.
The starch in an overripe banana has mostly converted to sugar, so it is a lot sweeter and easier to digest. It also has a higher level of antioxidants than a less ripe banana.

What health benefits does this pumpkin pie smoothie have?
This smoothie is loaded with nutrients!
Pumpkin is high in antioxidants and vitamins A and C.
Bananas are high in vitamin B6, vitamin C, fiber and manganese.
Soy milk is a good source of protein and potassium, and is usually also fortified with calcium and vitamins A, B-12, and D.
Can I make my own Pumpkin Spice?
Yes, you can absolutely make your own pumpkin spice. I actually find that it’s cheaper to make it yourself!
Pumpkin spice varies from brand to brand, recipe to recipe. The recipe I like to use is from All Recipes,by PENILU:
- ¼ cup ground cinnamon
- 4 teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 4 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground allspice
What can I do with leftover pumpkin puree?
Often times, recipes don’t call for the entire can of pumpkin puree. If you have any leftover, try these recipes:
You can also freeze the leftover pumpkin puree in an ice cube tray. Once the cubes are frozen solid, transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag.
I like these eco-friendly silicone bags:
