Method
- Make sure the oat baby cereal is fully cooked. If using frozen blueberries, thaw them safely before preparing the recipe.
- Add the cooked oat cereal, blueberries, and smooth almond butter to a blender or food processor.
- Blend until the ingredients are well combined and the almond butter is fully incorporated. Add a little water, prepared infant formula, or breast milk if needed to adjust the consistency.
- For babies ready for thicker textures, thoroughly mash the softened blueberries with a fork and stir everything together. Avoid whole blueberries or thick clumps of almond butter.
- Check the temperature and consistency before serving. Refrigerate or freeze any untouched extra portions promptly.
Notes
- Use smooth, unsweetened almond butter without nut pieces.
- Blend or mash blueberries thoroughly. Whole blueberries can be a choking hazard.
- If introducing almond butter for the first time, follow your pediatrician's advice, particularly if your baby has severe eczema or a known food allergy.
- Use iron-fortified oat cereal when appropriate to help provide iron.
- Store untouched prepared cereal in the refrigerator for 1–2 days, or freeze individual portions for 1–2 months for best quality.
- Discard leftovers from your baby's serving bowl.
- This recipe is suitable for babies who are developmentally ready for solids, typically around 6 months, with a texture appropriate for their feeding skills.
