Ingredients

For attaching candy after it's baked:

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350º F. Line a 9″ x 13″ baking sheet with parchment paper or silpat.
  • Mix all of the dry ingredients (cocoa, flour, baking soda and salt) together in a small bowl. Set it aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients together.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until it comes together. Don’t over mix.
  • Pour the batter onto the baking sheet and spread it out evenly to cover the entire pan. I found that a small offset spatula works best.
  • Top the batter with candy (nonpareils, Snickers, peanut butter cups, etc.) and bake in the oven for 15-17 minutes. Turn the pan once during baking and keep a close eye on it as the corners can burn quickly.
  • Let the brittle cool, then remove it from the baking sheet by picking up the parchment paper. Place it on a cutting board and use a knife to cut the brownie brittle into pieces.
  • If you want to add decorative candy such as candy corn or candy eyeballs, mix together 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar and a few drops of water to form a paste. Use the paste as glue to attach the candies. Enjoy!!

Notes

  • The best candies to use for baking into the brittle are: nonpareils, Reese's Pieces and M&M's as wells as chocolates like Snickers, Butterfingers and peanut butter cups.  Other sugar candies will melt and disappear when baked.

  • Decorate the brownie brittle with candy eyeballs, candy corn, and other sugar candies after it's baked by using a powdered sugar paste to attach it.
