These paper straw Christmas tree ornaments are a cute and easy craft to make with your kids this holiday season!
My kids and I usually bake a lot of goodies during the holidays (talk about a major sugar overload). This year, we made these delicious Christmas White Chocolate S’more Pops and had a lot of leftover Christmas straws.
Of course we could use the straws to drink out of, but we typically use reusable silicone straws at home. So, I thought a good way to use the left of overs would be to make Christmas crafts!
With just paper straws and a few common household supplies, you can make these cute Christmas tree ornaments! It’s a great craft to make with your kids. Make a few to decorate your tree and give some away as gifts.
Why do we decorate Christmas trees?
- The first “Christmas trees” were decorated in the 16th century in Germany.
- Because wood was hard to come by in the winter, they would keep an evergreen tree or wood piled in a pyramid shape in their house.
- They would decorate the tree or pyramid with pinecones, apples and candles to get them through the dark months and remind them of the spring that was yet to come.
- In 1846, Queen Victoria was pictured next to a Christmas tree in the Illustrated London News, which helped to bring popularity of this custom to the UK and America.
- Today, Christmas is celebrated around the world by decorating Christmas trees!

How do you make paper straw Christmas tree ornaments?
Supplies:
- Christmas paper straws
- popsicle sticks
- yellow pompoms
- green marker or green paint
- ribbon or string
- glue
- scissors
Step 1: Use a green marker to color a popsicle stick. Or, you can paint it green instead. Then, tie a piece of string to the top of the popsicle stick and put a dab a glue on it to secure it in place.
Step 2: Glue a pompom to the top of the popsicle stick for the Christmas tree’s star.
Step 3: Cut the paper straws in different lengths to form a triangle. I used 6 straws, but you can use more or less if you want.
Step 4: Glue the straws to the popsicle stick and let it dry completely. Then hang it on your tree!
