It’s a sweet and salty mix of cereal, pretzels, chips, and whatever else you feel like adding to it. You simply make the sauce, toss it with your cereal blend, then bake it. Its so easy to make, and even easier to eat more than you planned to…it’s that good!
What is furikake?
Furikake is a Japanese seasoning, typically sprinkled on top of rice. It usually consists of nori (dried seaweed), sesame seeds, salt and sugar.
There are many different varieties of furikake, which can have other ingredients in them, such as bonito flakes, chili flakes, miso powder, etc.
For the this Chex Mix recipe, it’s best to use Nori Komi Furikake. This variety is basic, and contains only nori, sesame seeds, salt and sugar.

How do you make Furikake Chex Mix?
Ingredients:
- 6 cups of Rice Chex
- 6 cups of Corn Chex
- 3 cups of Kix
- 3 cups of pretzels
- 1/2 cup of butter
- 1/2 cup of light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 bottle of Nori Komi Furikake (1.7 oz)
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 250º F. Then, mix the cereal and pretzels together in a large bowl or large pot, and set it aside.
Step 2: Add the butter, corn syrup, vegetable oil, sugar and soy sauce to a small pot over medium heat. Stir the mixture occasionally, and remove it from the heat once it comes to a simmer.
Step 3: Pour the sauce over the cereal mixture and gently mix it until evenly coated. Then, pour the entire bottle of furikake over the cereal, and mix it again until the furikake is evenly distributed.
Step 4: Divide the cereal mixture evenly between two large sheet pans. Then bake in the oven for 45 minutes – 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to make sure it’s cooking evenly. You’ll know it’s done when the sauce has dried out and the cereal is crunchy.
Step 5: Let it cool completely, and store in an airtight container or bag. Enjoy!
Notes: If you want to make a gluten free version, use gluten free cereal, chips, etc. and either use gluten free soy sauce, or omit it.
