As much as we try to introduce our kids to healthy, delicious and diverse foods, sometimes we still end up with a picky eater. I know it can be frustrating when your child refuses to eat their vegetables, but don’t give up! Here are some ways to make eating vegetables fun for everyone!
Turn Vegetables Into Chips
Sometimes, the texture of the way vegetables are cooked can be a turn-off to picky eaters. But “crunchy” is a texture almost everyone likes. Everyone loves chips, right? Try making your own vegetable chips to win your picky eater over!
Check out Nutrition Refined for tips on making oven-baked chips out of green, leafy vegetables as well as root vegetables.
Make Veggie Fries
Presentation is everything! Just cutting vegetables in “sticks” and calling them “fries” can win a kid over. Serve them with ketchup or their favorite dipping sauce and watch them dig in.
Tasty has great recipes for asparagus, sweet potato, carrot and zucchini fries. Give them all a try!
Drink Your Vegetables
Kids love great tasting drinks! Juicing vegetables with different fruits is a great way to get them into your kid’s diet. The fruits will sweeten the juice, and can even mask the taste of the vegetables. Serve it up with a fancy straw, and your kids will love it!
Smoothies are another great way to sneak veggies into a drink. My kids absolutely love this Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie, and they don’t even know that it has spinach in it!
Hidden Vegetables
If all else fails, hide the vegetables in your kid’s food. This way, you can feel good about them getting their nutrients, and they can enjoy their food without throwing tantrums. It’s a win-win!
Cauliflower is such an easy vegetable to hide in foods. Try this Healthy Mac and Cheese recipe and Vegan Taco “Meat” recipe. Cauliflower is a main ingredient in both dishes, and you wouldn’t even know it!
The best ways to make eating vegetables fun for everyone are to turn vegetables into a familiar snack like chips or fries. Adding them to juices or smoothies is another great way to get them into your kid’s diet. If all else fails, hide the veggies in their food to ensure they are eating healthy without having to battle with them.
