Cucumber Baby Food Purees, Three Ways

5 from 2 votes
Three refreshing cucumber and apple baby food purees made with mint, cilantro, or dill.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes
Servings: 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cucumber peeled, de-seeded and sliced
  • 1 cup apple cored, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup water for cooking
  • a few leaves fresh mint OR
  • a few sprigs fresh cilantro OR
  • a few sprigs fresh dill

Equipment

  • Baby Bullet
  • Food Processor
  • blender

Method

  1. Core, peel and dice the apples. Place them in a pot along with 1/4 cup of water. Cover and cook over low heat for 15-20 minutes, until soft.
  2. Meanwhile, peel and de-seed the cucumber (optional if using an English Cucumber) and roughly dice it.
  3. Once the apples have cooled a little, add them to a blender (or food processor) along with the cucumbers and your herb of choice. Blend until smooth. If you’re using a powerful blender, you shouldn’t need to add any extra liquid. If you do add extra liquid, add just a tiny bit at a time. Cucumbers are made of mostly water, so adding extra liquid will result in a watery puree.

Notes

  • Choose mint, cilantro, or dill to create three different flavor combinations.
  • For a smoother consistency, use a high-powered blender.
  • Avoid adding too much water because cucumber already contains plenty of moisture.
  • Serve alone or mix with plain, unsweetened yogurt if your baby has already tried and tolerated dairy.
  • Store in the refrigerator for 1–2 days or freeze in individual portions for 1–2 months.
  • Introduce new ingredients separately before combining them in a puree.
