Oat Baby Cereal

Try this homemade oat baby cereal for your 4 month+ baby. It's so easy to make and will be ready in minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup instant oats
  • 1 cup water for cooking
  • 1/4 cup water, breast milk or baby formula plus more, if needed
  • 1 pinch various spices cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, etc. (optional)

Instructions

  • Put the oats in a pot with water and bring to a boil.  Turn the heat down and simmer for 1-2 minutes, or until the the water is absorbed and the oats are thick and creamy. Make sure to stir the oats occasionally to keep them from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • Put the cooked oats, along with 1/4 cup of water, into a Baby Bullet, food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.  Add additional water, breast milk or formula to reach your desired consistency.
  • Divide the batch into different portions and add a pinch of different spices to each portion (optional).

Notes

The cereal may become thicker once it is cooled and stored (either in the refrigerator or freezer), so additional liquid might need to be added before serving it.

If you are looking for a super smooth puree, a you'll need a good, powerful blender.
However, keep in mind that this is not necessary, and giving your baby different textured foods is very helpful in training your baby's palate.
