Spooky Pizzas

When I was little, my sister and I would make English muffin pizzas all the time. They were easy to make and took care of our pizza cravings quickly.

So now, it’s time to pass this childhood memory on to my kids. What better way to do that than with spooky pizzas for Halloween?

These Spooky Pizzas are:

  • fun
  • festive
  • easy to make
  • individual sized
  • perfect for toddlers and kids
  • customizable

How do you toast English muffins?

It’s best to toast the English Muffins before making the spooky pizzas, so the sauce doesn’t make them soggy.

To toast them, break the English muffins apart with either a fork or a knife. Then, place them in a toaster and toast them until golden brown.

If you don’t have a toaster, you can toast them in a dry pan (with no butter or oil). Toast on each side for 1-2 minutes, until each side is golden brown.

You can also broil them in the oven for 1-2 minutes one each side.

How do you make Spooky Pizzas?

Spooky Pizza ingredients

Ingredients:

  • English Muffins, toasted
  • pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • whole black olives

For the mummy and spider web:

  • string cheese

For the jack-o-lantern:

  • Yellow American or cheddar slices (I used a large block of sharp cheddar and sliced it myself)
  • green bell pepper

The Mummy Spooky Pizza:

Instructions: Spread about 2 tablespoons of sauce on one half of an English Muffin. Then, place two slices of olives on the sauce for the mummy’s eyes. Use “strings” of string cheese for the mummy’s wrap.

The Spider Web Spooky Pizza:

Instructions: Spread about 2 tablespoons of sauce on one half of an English muffin. Using “strings” from the string cheese, create three circles as shown in the picture below. Then, use three long strings to make cross patterns across the circles.

For the spider, slice an olive in half lengthwise. Take one half of the olive, and make 4 thin slices across. Cut those 4 slices in half to make 8 spider legs. Place the legs on the spider web, then put the other half of the olive on top of the legs to create the spider’s body.

The Jack-O-Lantern Spooky Pizza:

Jack-O-Lantern Spooky Pizzas

Instructions: Spread about 2 tablespoons of sauce on one half of an English muffin. Then, place a rectangle piece of green bell pepper on the top for the pumpkin’s stem. Use a knife or pair of kitchen scissors to cut a slice of cheese into a circle, with a rectangle cut out for the stem.

To make the Jack-O-Lantern’s eyes and nose, cut an olive in half lengthwise. Trim three sizes of the olive to create a triangle, as pictured below. Use the remaining parts of the olive (that was cut to make the triangles) to create its mouth.

Once you’ve created your spooky pizzas, place them on a baking sheet and bake them in the oven at 400º F for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is just melted. Keep an eye on them and don’t bake them for too long, or the designs may warp.

Serve immediately. Enjoy!
