My daughter is obsessed with unicorns. Practically everything she has is unicorn themed, and she just can’t get enough! (By the way, if you have a little girl at home who loves unicorns too, check out Top 20 Gift Ideas for Girls Who Love Unicorns.)

I made these toilet paper roll unicorns with my daughter and she absolutely loved them! I did the cutting and stapling, and she did the painting and glitter. It was great quality time spent crafting her favorite thing in the world!

Fun Facts about Unicorns

  • Unicorns are mythical creatures first written about by the Ancient Greeks.
  • They are also written about in European and Asian mythology.
  • Unicorns don’t have wings. Winged horses are called pegasi.

Supplies:

  • toilet paper roll
  • scrap cardboard (such as an old cereal box)
  • paint
  • stapler
  • multi colored curling ribbon
  • marker
  • glitter
  • glue

Step 1: Paint the toilet paper roll and let it dry completely.

Step 2: Then, cut the unicorn’s horn and ears out of the cardboard. I used glue and glitter to decorate the horn, and used paint and glitter to decorate the ears. You can do the same, or be creative and change it up!

Step 3: Take a few longer strands of curling ribbon and staple them together at the top. Then, use scissors to curl the strands. Repeat with shorter strands of ribbon to form the unicorn’s bangs.

Step 4: Staple the longer bunch of ribbon to the back of the toilet paper roll, and the shorter bunch of ribbon to the front of the toilet paper roll, as pictured below.

Step 5: Cut small slits on each side of the toilet paper roll, as pictured below, then insert the ears.

Step 6: Staple the horn to the top the toilet paper roll.

Step 8: Use a marker to draw on the unicorn’s face. I also used a little glue and glitter to make its cheeks.

By the way, as much as I love glitter, I HATE that these micro plastics end up in our oceans. It is extremely harmful for our environment. Luckily, there is bio-degradable, earth friendly glitter available!
