Can you puree cucumber for babies?
Yes, it is safe to puree cucumbers for babies after 6 months.
Cucumbers can cause some babies to be gassy, which can cause discomfort. If this happens with your baby, stop giving her cucumbers for the time being, and try again when she is slightly older (8 months+).
Can babies eat raw cucumber?
There are differences of opinions on whether you should feed your baby raw cucumber or not.
Some people think it should be blanched for at least a minute to kill any microbes that may be in the cucumber.
Others think it’s fine to give babies raw cucumber.
I, personally, have given both of my babies raw, pureed cucumbers and never had any problems.
If you are unsure, you can always blanch the cucumbers before pureeing them for your baby.
You should also always consult your pediatrician before giving your baby any new foods.

What health benefits does this cucumber + melon puree provide?
This puree is loaded with health benefits for your baby!
Cucumbers are good for preventing constipation and promoting bone health (high in vitamin K).
Melons all provide a good source of vitamin C, which helps with boosting immunity. Here’s a list of other benefits for specific melons.

How do you make Cucumber + Melon Baby Food Puree?
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of cucumber, peeled and deseeded
- 1 cup of melon (honey dew, cantaloupe, sugar kiss, etc.)
- A few fresh basil leaves
Equipment:
Step 1: Wash and peel the cucumber, then slice it lengthwise. Drag a spoon down the middle of the cucumber to remove its seeds. Then, slice the the cucumber.

Step 2: Wash, peel and deseed the melon. Then, cut it into cubes.

Step 3: Add the cucumber, melon and basil to a food processor and puree it until smooth.

Note: A blender will generally give you a smoother puree than a food processor, especially when working with ingredients that have skins or fibers.
If you’re looking for an extra-smooth consistency, a high-powered blender can be especially helpful.
Although I’m using a high-powered blender to showcase this recipe, I actually made a lot of homemade baby food for my kids using a food processor!
As my babies became more comfortable eating solids, I liked introducing different age-appropriate textures instead of serving only perfectly smooth purees. Offering a variety of textures helps babies develop their eating skills as they grow.
In fact, this KitchenAid food processor is the one I used. I loved it because it was compact enough for my small kitchen but still powerful enough to make homemade baby food.
Ultimately, you don’t need any special equipment to make baby food. Whether you use a blender or food processor, the most important thing is preparing the puree to a consistency that’s appropriate for your baby’s developmental stage.

Change it up!
Don’t be afraid to experiment with herbs and spices! It will expand your baby’s palate and set her up to be an adventurous eater in the future.
Try adding some fresh mint to this puree to give it a different taste!
I used a honey dew melon in this puree. Try using different melons to vary the taste and color!
You should always consult your pediatrician before giving your baby new foods.

- My baby food recipes don’t yield a lot because babies don’t eat much, and they should be eating a variety of different foods (making too much of one type won’t give them that opportunity). However, if you want to make this recipe in bulk to freeze for later, simply double it.
