Let your kids have fun with this edible paint…design, create, and eat! This is especially great for toddlers.

Painting is so much fun, and it’s such a great activity to get your kids’ creative juices flowing.

But how much more fun is painting with edible paint, and then eating it? This is especially true for toddlers, like my daughter, who want to eat everything!

This edible paint is yogurt based, and it really does taste good! Just look at Emmalee eating it up.

Edible Paint

How do you make edible paint?

Ingredients:

Supplies to paint with:

Step 1: Add yogurt to a small bowl, and add a specific color of pixie stix to it. Add as much or as little as you want to flavor and color the yogurt. Mix it together until it’s well combined. Add a few drops of food coloring to brighten the color.

Step 2: Repeat this process with all the colors. Then, start painting!

Note: I used pixie sticks because it doesn’t contain gelatin, and after all, this is a vegetarian blog! If you are not vegetarian, you can do the same thing with jello.

You can also use yogurt that is already colored (such as GoGurt), but mixing your own flavors and colors gives you more control over it…plus, it’s fun!

For preschoolers…

If your child is preschool age or older, encourage them to use the paint brushes to create all kinds of designs. This will help them with fine motor skills.

For toddlers…

If you’re doing this activity with toddlers, let them finger paint! They’ll have a blast!

Mixing Colors with Edible Paint

Let your kids help with creating colors. You can create new colors by experimenting with the food coloring, or by mixing the yogurt paints together.

Here are some books about mixing colors that would go along with this activity:
