quick and easy chia jam

If you haven’t had chia jam yet, what are you waiting for? It’s so quick and easy to make, and is packed with nutrients. Pair your favorite fruit with this super food and use it the same way you use regular jam (on toast, in PB&J sandwiches, in yogurt parfaits, and more)!

What are the benefits of chia seeds?

Chia seeds are loaded with nutrients, and are low in calories. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acid and fiber, and also contain protein, iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc.

How is chia jam different from regular jam?

Regular jam uses a lot of sugar and pectin to get its thick consistency.

Chia jam, on the other hand, uses the seeds’ natural gelatinous texture to thicken the jam. They give the jam a slightly different texture and mouthfeel, but if you’re accustomed to eating chia pudding, you’ll love this!

One huge benefit of chia jam is that you can control the level of sweetness in it and you can even use healthier options such as maple syrup or honey.

Great for kids!

I like to use chia jam on my kids’ peanut butter and jelly sandwiches instead of regular jam or jelly. It contains so much less sugar and is full of all those great nutrients.

This jam is:

  • easy to make
  • customizable
  • packed with nutrients
  • a healthy swap for regular jam

How long does it keep?

Chia jam can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for about 2 weeks, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Step 2: Mix in the chia seeds and lemon juice, then remove it from the heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes (this gives the chia time to do its magic and thicken the jam).

Step 3: Add the fruit mixture to a blender or food processor and blend everything together. Then, give it a taste and sweeten it to your liking.

Step 4: Serve immediately, or store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks or in the freezer for 3 months.

Note: If you like your jam chunky, simply smash the fruit with a potato masher or the back of a spoon before adding the chia seeds and lemon, and don’t blend it.

Try different berries and fruits for your jam! I made strawberry, blueberry and strawberry-peach and they were all delicious!
