This recipe is for stage 2 Cauliflower + Pea Baby Food Puree. Fresh dill really brightens this baby food, making a delicious and healthy meal for your 6 month+ baby!
When I was little, one of my favorite foods to eat was mashed potatoes with peas, made for me by my grandma. I can still remember sitting in front of the tv, watching Sesame Street, and shoveling this yummy combo into my mouth.
Thinking back on my childhood inspired me to make a “mashed potato” and pea puree for Emmalee. But just my luck, I didn’t have any potatoes on hand the day I wanted to make this. Luckily I had the next best thing…cauliflower!
“Cauliflower mash” is a delicious, low-carb substitute for mashed potatoes, and I thought it would work great in this baby food puree. I threw in some fresh dill because it compliments the peas so well.
What health benefits does this cauliflower and pea baby food puree provide for my baby?
Cauliflower is a good source of vitamin C and vitamin K and is high in fiber, so it will help prevent constipation in your baby.
Peas are also high in fiber, contain heart-healthy minerals, and have a high protein content.
Dill is known for reducing gas and preventing hiccups (both problems my baby has!).
How long will homemade baby food last?
Fresh, homemade baby food will last in the refrigerator for 3 days. Once the 3 days have passed, the remaining food should be disposed of for safety reasons.

How do you make cauliflower and pea baby food puree?
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of cauliflower
- 1/2 cup of frozen peas
- a few sprigs of fresh dill
- water, baby formula or breast milk
Equipment:
Step 1: Fill a pot with a few inches of water and place a steamer basket in it. The water should not touch the basket.
Step 2: Wash and cut 1 cup of cauliflower. Place the cauliflower in the steamer basket, cover the pot and steam on medium heat for 5 minutes.
Step 3: Next, add 1/2 cup of frozen peas to the steamer basket and steam for another 5 minutes. Test it to make sure the cauliflower is fork tender, then remove it from heat.
Step 4: After the vegetables have cooled slightly, add them a blender along with the dill. Puree until smooth, adding liquid as necessary.
Note: Keep in mind that a blender will give you a smoother puree than a food processor.
If you’re looking for a super smooth puree, you will need a high-powered blender.
Although I am using a high-powered blender to showcase this recipe, I made a lot of baby food for my kids in a food processor. I liked to give my babies lots of different textures because I didn’t want them to get accustomed to super smooth purees all the time.
In fact, this KitchenAid food processor is what I used. I LOVE it because it is very compact (I have a small kitchen) but it’s still powerful.
But, the tool you choose to puree your baby food in is totally up to you! It’s just a matter of personal preference.
