Fun facts about shamrocks:

  • Shamrocks are Ireland’s national flower.
  • The word “shamrock” comes from the Irish word “seamróg,” which means young clover.
  • Shamrocks only have 3 leaves (four leaf clovers are sometimes mistaken as shamrocks).
  • Four leaf clovers are a rare find, and are therefore considered lucky. However, they are not the same as a shamrock.
  • Ancient Druids thought shamrocks were lucky charms that warded off evil spirits.
  • Shamrocks are a symbol of St. Patrick’s Day.

Is glitter safe for the environment?

This craft uses glitter, because…why not? It’s shiny, glittery and so pretty! But is glitter good for the environment? Unfortunately, no.

Glitter is made up of tiny pieces of plastic (PET), which unfortunately end up in our oceans and into the bellies of fish and other aquatic life.

But, there is good news! There are companies like PlurVision and Hemway that make biodegradable, plant-based glitter. You get all the shine without the guilt!

Please consider using environmentally friendly glitter whenever possible!

How do you make this Shamrock Stamping Craft?

Supplies:

Step 1: Crease the toilet paper roll to form a heart shape. Then wrap the rubber band around the roll to hold the heart shape in place.

Step 2: Dip one end of the roll in glue, and stamp it on the paper to create a heart representing one leaf of the shamrock. Remember, each shamrock has three leaves, so repeat this step two more times to create one shamrock.

Step 3: Once you have created as many shamrocks as you’d like, use the glue to draw each shamrock’s stem. Then cover all of the shamrocks with green glitter. Shake off the excess glitter, and voila! You have a beautiful piece of art!
