This Halloween Brownie Brittle is a wafer-thin, crispy brownie topped your favorite Halloween candy!
It’s almost Halloween! Time to make cute treats for our kids…right?
I’ve seen a ton of recipes on Pinterest for chocolate Halloween bark. And while they all look amazing, I have a hunch they’re insanely sweet.
The batter for this Halloween Brownie Brittle isn’t too sweet (it tastes slightly sweeter than the cookie part of an Oreo), so it leaves room for all of the cute and delicious Halloween candy you’d like to top it with!
This Halloween Brownie Brittle is:
- Fun and easy to make
- Customizable
- Crispy
- Not overly sweet
What kind of candies should you use?
I really wanted to use fancy sprinkles, candy corn, candy eyeballs and Reese’s Pieces in my Halloween Brownie Brittle, but most of them melted and almost completely disappeared. The only ones that remained intact were the nonpareil sprinkles and Reese’s Pieces.
As you can see, there are holes where some of my sprinkles were. I filled the holes with new sprinkles.
I ended up using a powdered sugar and water paste to attach the candy corn and eyeballs to the brittle after it was baked.
So, as far the candies to use for baking into the brittle, I suggest: nonpareils, Reese’s Pieces and M&M’s.
If you want to add candy to flavor the brittle (so it doesn’t matter if it melts away) you could use Snickers, peanut butter cups, Butterfinger, etc.
Keep in mind that you can add any candy that you want after the brittle is baked!
How do you make Halloween Brownie Brittle?
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 large egg white, room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of water
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of Hersey’s Special Dark Cocoa, or Dutch processed cocoa
- 1/3 cup of all purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon of salt
- assorted Halloween candy
For the “glue” to attach decorative candy (optional):
- 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
- a few drops of water
Equipment:
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350º F. Line a 9″ x 13″ baking sheet with parchment paper or silpat.
Step 2: Mix all of the dry ingredients (cocoa, flour, baking soda and salt) together in a small bowl. Set it aside.
Step 3: In a medium bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients together.
Step 4: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until it comes together. Don’t over mix.
Step 5: Pour the batter onto the baking sheet and spread it out evenly to cover the entire pan. I found that a small offset spatula works best.
Step 6: Top the batter with candy (nonpareils, Snickers, peanut butter cups, etc.) and bake in the oven for 15-17 minutes. Turn the pan once during baking and keep a close eye on it as the corners can burn quickly.
Step 7: Let the brittle cool, then remove it from the baking sheet by picking up the parchment paper. Place it on a cutting board and use a knife to cut the brownie brittle into pieces.
Step 8: If you want to add decorative candy such as candy corn or candy eyeballs, mix together 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar and a few drops of water to form a paste. Use the paste as glue to attach the candies. Enjoy!!
