These Halloween coffee filter suncatchers are an easy kids craft that looks especially fun hanging in a sunny window. Kids can paint coffee filters in warm Halloween colors, add spooky shapes using the free printable templates, and watch the finished suncatchers glow when the light shines through.

This is a simple Halloween craft for preschoolers and elementary-age kids, and it works well for homeschool, classrooms, or an afternoon activity at home.

Supplies for Halloween Coffee Filter Suncatchers

• Coffee filters
• Yellow and Orange Paint
• Paper Towel
• Free Printables
• Scissors
• Tape

Step 1: Add Paint to the Coffee Filter

Flatten a coffee filter and place it on a paper plate, newspaper, or another protected surface. Add a small amount of yellow and orange paint. A little goes a long way.

Step 2: Spread the Paint

Fold a piece of paper towel and use it to spread the paint across the entire coffee filter, all the way to the edges. Blot up any excess paint so the layer stays thin enough for light to shine through. Set the coffee filter aside to dry.

Step 3: Print and Cut the Templates

While the coffee filter is drying, print the Halloween templates and cut out the shapes you want to use.

Step 4: Add the Halloween Shapes

Glue the Halloween shapes onto the dry coffee filter. Let everything dry completely. Repeat the steps to make as many suncatchers as you’d like.

Step 5: Hang Them in a Window

Tape the finished suncatchers to a sunny window and watch the colors glow when the light shines through.
